On the runway

The concept: surf dandy. A man who catches waves in Costa Rica but returns to a double-breasted suit. Pharrell described his design philosophy as consumer-first: "I'm a creative director, but I'm a consumer's designer. I design for things I know I'm gonna consume."

Double-breasted suits, duffle coats, bombers — excellent base-level work. Over that: a jacket assembled from souvenir patches, jeans embroidered with cowrie shells, a bouclé overcoat. One LV-monogrammed wetsuit, worn under a long coat. One model carried a branded surfboard. Another a bicycle.

Hand-woven checkerboard cardigans. Sun-faded hoodies — with gilded drawstring tips — styled like they'd spent a summer in a surfer's locker. Trousers alternated between slim and flared. The LV Combi, a flat-toe sneaker in Monogram canvas and exotic leathers, immediately became a talking point online for its resemblance to a Vans silhouette.

Fabric and technology

Cashmere developed with Loro Piana. Savile Row suit wool bonded with technical material — waterproof separates suitable for cycling to work in the rain. Shibori-dyed denim, the indigo pattern from Japanese textile tradition. Pre-mended outerwear where the repair is the design.

Ochre, olive, burgundy, deep navy. Pops of checkerboard print, tropical print. Nothing accidental — every shade tied to the idea of after the sea.

What it means

Pharrell has been building a specific archetype across his Vuitton seasons: the dandy who moves between high culture and subculture without announcing either. Here it crystallized. The surf reference wasn't costume — it was a genuine point of view about how a man spends his time and what he takes seriously enough to dress well for.

"I don't see these as fashion shows," he said. "I see them as dandy experiences."

The clothes backed it up.
